An hour for democracy project is co-funded by a grant from Switzerland through the Swiss Contribution to the enlarged EU. Total project value is 111.333 CHF, which represents 99.990 CHF grant from the Swiss and 11.343 CHF, the contribution of the Action Movement Association and European Initiative.
The project’s goal is to create opportunities, with the Swiss expertise, for the youth of Drobeta-Turnu Severin, in order to understand participatory democracy and to be involved in their community. Through this project, young people will understand the functioning mechanisms of participatory democracy and in addition will be directly involved in debates and volunteering.
Through the activities carried out under An hour for democracy project:
∙ 210 High School students from Drobeta- Turnu Severin will participate in a pilot program that combine education democratic methods of formal education with non-formal techniques;
∙ 150 young people from Drobeta-Turnu Severin will be supported to actively engage in solving community problems through the projects developed within 3 democracy clubs;
∙ 70 representatives of institutions and nonguvernamental organizations interested of democracy will participate in a national seminar on the ,,The role of education in raising the awareness of the importance of participatory democracy”;
∙ 20 students from other High Schools from Drobeta-Turnu Severin will participate at the workshops created by their colleagues;
∙ 210 High School students from Drobeta-Turnu Severin will participate in teams of four or five students in a of debate, after which participants will be selected to summer school;
∙ 12 High School students from Drobeta-Turnu Severin will meet Swiss democratic model through Switzerland summer school;
∙ 3000 visitors of the site www.orapentrudemocratie.ro will gain more informations participatory democracy and active citizenship;
Through the transfer of good practices and expertise of the Swiss partners, the project contributes to the development of bilateral relations between Switzerland and Romania, thus fulfilling one of the aims of Romanian-Swiss cooperation Program.
